Grand Rounds

Two little words. They SEEM innocent, and maybe even make you think it means something really grand, right?! Yah, well I am here to tell you not to be fooled!! To a nursing student, grand rounds mean stress with stress gravy, a big side of stress and some stress for dessert!!

Grand rounds mean different things to different schools actually, and for me it means a huge project on an assigned disease process or surgical procedure. I've been given COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and I've had to complete a very detailed pathophysiology paper which addressed my clients history, medications, lab results, signs and symptoms, potential complications of his disease and more. We also have to prepare a teaching portion to be presented to our fellow classmates, cover the nursing diagnosises pertinent to our client and have a way of testing the class on material we've covered. Needless to say, it has consumed every non-working/sleeping/eating hour I've had in the last several days--thus the reason for no new blog posts =( I have completed 95% at this point, so I am breathing easier and can explain my absence!!

I am actually vaguely aware of Grand Rounds and am not, in any way, jealous. Good luck on the paper...it will be over. Eventually. And may the force be with you. ;) COPD is better than obstructed bowel, though, yes?

Wow, that does sound like a ton of stress. An awesome experience, though, once you're done with it! Good luck, and do something nice for yourself when you're done!
